I really like this photo for what it, subjectively, shows Bucharest is - a city (and a nation) struck by a mad man’s (Nicolae Ceaușescu's to be exact) dream of creating “Paris” of the South-Eastern Europe. Where people are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of megalomania, conspiracy and unwanted help in their daily lives. Few decades ago you had to think as the authorities wanted. Although their president was shot by the people (together with his wife) in the beginning of 1990s their “heritage” remains and troubles the country to some extent. Palace of Parliament was formerly built as president's (Ceaușescu’s) residence and formerly called People's House. It was erected on the site of some monasteries that were demolished as well as about 37 old factories and workshops.
